The world of work has never been static. Reflecting on previous decades, we’ve seen incredible changes such as the rise of the internet and enormous growth in competition. And yet, since the first Covid lockdown in March 2020, we’ve seen change like never before. Perhaps this shift was coming whether we suffered a global pandemic or not. Technology was already racing forward, new generations were entering the workplace, and world events were centre stage.
Whatever the trigger, there’s no doubt we’re living in a new world of work. And the old world has gone forever. There’s no rewind. Every business must decide how to support its employees achieve the work-life balance they want. Business must also tackle other new challenges such as talent shortages, digitalisation, and environmental issues. So, after such a plethora of change, are we in a better or worse place? Does the new world of work present an opportunity or a threat? We invited prominent leaders in the built environment to help us try and answer this important question.
I hope we inspire you to help your own organisation to embrace the new world of work. May today’s challenges become your opportunities.
